A food for thought: Square recently said that given the Switch sucess, it would be more open to develop AA games for it.Hopefully with this they give Chrono Trigger a second chance as a AA franchise, even if it deserves the biggest budget it could get, and lives on at least as a Switch exclusive, possibly with the first game being a remake using Octopath engine/style.I mean, I would prefer if they went all in with Chrono Trigger and gave it an artstyle similar to Dragon Quest, but I would love this too.

Yeah, that would be pretty dope.  I could MAYBE see them doing something like that, and if it were to be successful enough, eventually get the Dragon Quest treatment.

 

It still blows my mind though how they have not done anything with it yet.  Even with all the controversy surrounding Chrono Cross, it was still a commercial and critical success.

 

And seeing how it introduced multiverse theory into the canon, it would have been easy to bring back Crono and the gang in some form or another.  There is literally endless potential for the franchise.

 

While I remain pessimistic overall on the topic of a new Chrono game, it will always be number one on my wishlist.  With that in mind, the scenario you painted would not be bad at all.
