"It is difficult to pivot quickly and try to chase after trends that might happen even on the scale of a year. In business terms a year can be a long time, but development time being three to four years these days, that's the span we need to think about."

(this means they view the "good" showing of single player games from sony as a "trend" that ll change by next year lmao)

You should probably read the entire article, it’s available for free. The context of the part about trends was in regards to battle royale, not “good showing of SP games from Sony”, lol. I mean... the OP literally begins with him discussing how long SP games will always be around. That’s the opposite of a trend that changes every year.

I know this is MS and Chartz so most of the talk will be negative but is there really anything surprising here? Microsoft has always been more about MP games and they’ve always put less resources into SP than the competition. With GamePass, why would they not continue to put an emphasis on GaaS? It also doesn’t mean they aren’t making any more SP games. Personally I’m fine with there being strengths and weaknesses for each console. I wouldn’t want MS to try and emulate Nintendo and Sony because that’s not why I game most on Xbox platforms.

For all the talk about how amazing Nintendo and Sony SP games are and how MS has nothing... they just released SoD2, which I’ve already put more time into in single player than I’ve put into any SP game from the other two. MS knows their fan base, what is wrong with them focusing on that fan base? They can try things to appeal to a wider crowd but there’s nothing wrong with appealing to their fans.
