First, I'm not sure why people are assuming that a business model offered in the small nation of Japan would be used with the rest of the world. It just isn't feasible in the near future. Why would they make a game knowing that most of the people elsewhere would be unable to play it? That makes no sense.
However, it is a peek at the future, which means they'll continue to experiment with it, as will everyone else.
