The NES was the console that was advanced enough to set up franchises and story lines that people cared about. So you get more memorable stuff.
2600 games are fun, but there wasn't a Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, or Metroid series that spawned from it. So there isn't the same urge to go back to see where it all started.
