It's not just Illinois. That link states it hits California and Maryland as well. There's no federal law that bans interstate travel with legally purchased firearms.

Just stop dude. It's illegal to purchase firearms from a different state resident. If bought legally from a FFL dealer then the dealer must ship it to the home state
