Well first off, L looks white just like all other anime characters pretty much in death note. Second off, not just the look but the personality of L in the show was off... way off. You could've had a pale emo white dude and it would've worked well regarding looks. L in death note movie looks like a regular dude, which made the odd things he did not look correct. If you're going to have an odd character he has to look you know odd.
