The best-selling Smash game is at 14.58M copies shipped. SSB4 is not a single platform game and the series is consistently growing. We already know Fire Emblem, Smash, Yoshi, Yokai Watch 4, Mario Tennis Aces and some other games are on the docket for 2018. Then there are expected games like Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Star Fox, etc. coming up with the possibility of certain third-party hits like Fortnite. And since Nintendo’s offering is only growing as opposed to competing with their previous year, I don’t see why you wouldn’t expect to see growth.

I'm not talking about the growth of the console. The subject arrived on individual games reception, their fanbases size and social media impact. And about that, the entire list you gave combined maybe isn't even enough to compare to Mario Kart. Only Pokemon is comparable to the size of Mario and Mario Kart, the rest is much smaller. It doesn't mean that the console will sell less though, since the Mario games are available for it anyway.

Super Mario Galaxy, the best-selling 3D Mario, only did 12.77M units. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a port of a game that only sold 8.4M copies in its original format. Obviously MK has amazing legs and MARIO is the most successful franchise ever, but Nintendo can easily rival its 2017 showing in popularity (though quality will be hard). Pokemon S&M did 16.1M. Animal Crossing New Leaf did 11.69M. Smash 4 did 14.58M copies. If Animal Crossing, Pokemon and Smash all come to Switch (along with other titles like Fire Emblem, Yoshi, Yokai Watch 4, Fortnite, Star Fox, etc.) they’re going to crush their 2017 showing.

OT: We’ve already had Splatoon 2, ARMS, BOTW, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Odyssey, Fire Emblem Warriors, Labo, Kirby Star Allies, etc. along with tons of great third-party content (Yooka-Laylee and South Park: TFBW are my faves) and there’s a huge library still set to come. There is no drought of great games on Switch.
