after generations of parents wishing their sons/daughters would not join the military but instead go to Uni/college because it is so much more safe we have now crossed a path where it potentially becomes more safe to join the military then going to study.

Yeah, but percentage wise you still probably have a better chance dying in military than dying at a school.
