Um. Nowhere did I suggest they'd gut the game or change it completely and nowhere is it suggested they're completely gutting the franchise to appeal to Go owners. From my perspective I mainly meant the shift in branding to "Let's Go!". And, like I said, to attract several million new customers, you don't really need to have a high success rate. Up to 1% would mean several million new consumers and anything above that would be very impressive. Whether this is a 'core game' or not has me leaning towards core game - they could easily be using the 3DS game engine and assets upscaled to HD, with new animations, textures and lighting models. Sun/Moon actually looks quite good running in Citra, for example. Additionally, Game Freak have never developed anything other than the main-series RPGs when it comes to Pokemon games. If this was a spin-off, it wouldn't be coming from Game Freak and it wouldn't have Junichi Masuda in charge. |
Ah, the branding. I thought you meant gameplay changes.
And there's a first time for everything mind. And they could use Sun and Moon as a starting point graphically. If that leaked screenshot is real though, they are reverting to grid based land. That will be a MASSIVE step backwards, imo. A big part of Sun and Moon's visual imrpovement was a move to more natural land forms. Now I think the screenshot is fake but if they are going full on nostalgia bait, they may be *that* dense and revert to that.
