What is it? Ive thought it was a visual novel series this entire time.

Visual novel around a trial gameplay like Ace Attorney. The trials are filled with mini games, and the story has strong Battle Royale vibes (but a lot crazier). Awesome games, but might be more difficult if you hate VNs.
