Brexiters were campaigning mostly on xenophobia not racism. They were amplifying and blowing out of proportions only benefits of Brexit, which by the way was mostly false. They got most of their votes from educated but retired middle class and ignorant and uneducated part of lower class. Remainers on other hand were very weak to counter that hoax. Now we are in a mess beyond repair.
