Without quoting the two guys in the discussion (they know who they are), I'm gonna toss in my two cents.
There were people who loved Heavy Rain and hated Beyond Two Souls. Two games from the same genre and the same creator with vastly different audience receptions. I'm expecting to love Detroit but there's no guarantee that it won't be too ambitious and botch the landing. People may end up hating it for legitimate reasons just like there could be people who love it and say "You just don't get it."
We have to keep our minds open.
