His son struggles with dealing with his emotions, as Cory stated in a few interviews, and he wanted to show him that it's okay to cry.
Also, his carreer has prevented him from spending time with his son, leading them to have a complicated relationship, so obviously there's a lot of stuff on his mind, etc (also his relationship with his son has been a huge inspiration for the game)
Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you are necessarily right.
