Dark Souls 3 cut content suggests Pontiff Sulyvahn was once the final boss
https://www.pcgamer.com/dark-souls-3-cut-content-suggests-pontiff-sulyvahn-was-once-the-final-boss/
Lance McDonald is a Soulsborne sleuth. After several months uncovering cut content from From Software's PlayStation-exclusive Bloodborne, the indie dev-turned-hobbyist game engineer has now turned his creative hand to Dark Souls.
McDonald's latest discovery, revealed via a series of tweets, suggests Dark Souls 3 had players, at one stage in development, fighting Pontiff Sulyvahn and not Soul of Cinder in the game's final showdown. Moreover, the encounter was set in an unreleased version of Untended Graves, and not the Kiln of the First Flame.

Security firm Avast said it discovered malware lingering in several downloadable Minecraft skins, and that nearly 50,000 accounts have already been infected. While not particularly sophisticated in nature, the malware is designed to reformat hard drives, delete backup data, and remove system programs.

Hearthstone got its fatigue mechanic thanks to Jeff Kaplan
https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-got-its-fatigue-mechanic-thanks-to-jeff-kaplan/
Hearthstone director Ben Brode shed some light on a few Hearthstone mysteries in a new video from Ars Technica. The whole video is a good watch if you're interested in Hearthstone's history and DNA, but the best bit is right at the end, where Brode explains how Hearthstone got its fatigue mechanic, which deals escalating damage to players each time they draw cards after their deck is empty. As Brode explains, fatigue damage didn't always exist, and they only came up with it after Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan played Hearthstone for himself.

A new MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries trailer teases extended 'destructibility'
https://www.pcgamer.com/a-new-mechwarrior-5-mercenaries-trailer-teases-extended-destructibility/
As you would expect from a game about giant fighting robots in the 31st century, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is all about destruction. Witness, for instance, last month's trailer, which was ostensibly intended to show off the game's biomes but was really just a bunch of stuff blowing up. Today's teaser is much the same, but more exuberantly musical, and without the pretense of being about anything but explosions.

Muffled Warfare is a multiplayer FPS where everyone is blind
https://www.pcgamer.com/muffled-warfare-is-a-multiplayer-fps-where-everyone-is-blind/
I can only assume Muffled Warfare is just developer Gattai Games challenging Samurai Punk, the makers of Screencheat, a multiplayer FPS where everyone is invisible and you have to discern enemy locations by looking at their screen. Because Muffled Warfare has taken it one step further: it's a multiplayer FPS where everyone is blind. Presumably the next game in this chain will come with an invisible monitor.

Battlefield studio DICE is reportedly working on a battle royale mode project
https://www.pcgamer.com/battlefield-studio-dice-is-reportedly-working-on-a-battle-royale-mode-project/
In case it wasn't the most bleedingly obvious direction for the world's most popular large scale FPS studio, DICE is reportedly working on a battle royale project. Specifically, a battle royale mode for this year's Battlefield V.

>>poklane made a thread about this, yesterday.

Watch three of Destiny 2's revamped Exotic weapons in action
https://www.pcgamer.com/watch-three-of-destiny-2s-revamped-exotic-weapons-in-action/
Bungie's weekly blog dropped a day early this afternoon, largely because the studio is busy playing host to a bunch of YouTubers and Twitch streamers over the next couple of days, but also because it's rightly excited to show off how tuning work is progressing on Destiny 2's arsenal of Exotic weapons. Though not always guaranteed to output the most DPS, Exotics are the highest tier of weaponry in the game, and come with unique perks and visual models.

Fortnite players believe a comet is set to destroy Tilted Towers
https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-players-believe-a-comet-is-set-to-destroy-tilted-towers/
Fortnite battle royale players are predicting that a large comet will collide with the game world soon. Specifically, Tilted Towers. For a while now, a conspicuous blue glow has floated over the infamous skirmish spot, as pictured above. And the recent addition of telescopes in the area demonstrates that it's something that players have been quietly warned to keep an eye on.

https://www.pcgamer.com/fortnite-update-v35-brings-light-machine-guns-and-50v50-limited-time-mode-mark-two/
There's a potentially life-threatening comet in the sky, and wake ceremonies on the ground. But even that can't stop Fortnite's steady stream of updates.
The latest, update v3.5, is live and brings with it the previously teased Light Machine Gun—a fast-firing shooter, equipped with a large magazine and long reload time. Likewise, the second iteration of Battle Royale's 50v50 Limited Time Mode is go—with "two teams, two buses, one Victory Royale"—as is a new questline for Save the World.

https://www.pcgamer.com/pubg-is-working-on-an-underground-cave-system-for-its-new-savage-map/
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developer PUBG Corp plans to grow its in-testing 4x4 Savage Map over the coming months. Based on South East Asia, the new arena draws from real-world Thailand—and the battle royale 'em up's latest Steam Community Update post contains photos of Phraya Nakhon Cave following a recent studio visit to Thailand. In-game, part of this landmark will be reworked into an underground cave system.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds will soon add map selection—four months after introducing its second playable arena, Miramar.
As detailed in this Steam Community update, developer PUBG Corp says it made the decision after "a lot of discussion and serious research", and a great deal of player feedback.
