While it's unfortunate, game sales don't mean a lot. MP games allow companies to cash in with microtransactions and DLC more frequently. This creates a constant source of revenue. Fifa generates a ton of money with the Ultimate Team.

I would say that making great AAA single player games without microtransactions is becoming restrict to first party titles, since the console companies want quality titles to push units, even if they are not as profitable as a CoD or BF game.

The ratings are good, but nowhere as important to publishers as revenue. Even the two example, BOTW and Odissey, sold a fraction of what a Fifa/CoD/BF game sells yearly while not having the other revenue streams.
