Are you seriously saying ports only do well because they were on previous platforms? That's crazy. A game that was purchased by what, 8 million people on one platform would be lucky to sell 8 million on the next. The only reason those games sell really well is because they are great quality games and the system that the ports are sold on is hugely successful. Also you cannot for a single minute think the majority that bought mk8 on wii u bought it on Switch too.

mostly hardcore nintendo fans bought the WIIU, there  no question in my mind that most double dipped for a superior portable version on switch, especially with how limited the game line up was, aside from zelda, what else are they gonna buy for the next 7 months?
