Well if your tastes limit the range of title's that appeal to you that's going to lead to droughts of that kind anyway.
However, the comparison to Wii U rings hollow because the issue there was not the slow periods, those are inevitable. PS4 and Xbone had them as well early on. It was the lack of any hot periods. Wii U never had an overly strong year, even 2014 only had small burts of high quality content. The Switch had a very hot period and is now in a cooler one, that's going to happen sometimes.
