We have centrist party's here who have enacted some substantial changes and continue to fight big business.

Then again, America's political landscape and alignments are substantially different from ours.
Our Liberal party for instance is considered Conservative.

Indeed. You can be right-wing in a left-wing party and vice versa.

For example... The Australian Labor Party is a left-wing political party... Yet had politicians like Mark Latham who is extremely right wing, religious, anti-homosexual, anti-immigration and so on.
