Correct. I did say millions. Not 10's of millions or 100's of millions.
2 million people wanting backwards compatibility when 100 million consoles have sold is only 2% of the platform base. Think about that for a moment.
With that in mind... One of the greatest aspects of the PC has been backwards compatibility, there is no need to worry about generations.
Last generation the Wii U, Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, 3DS, DS all had backwards compatibility and lots of people used that functionality to various extents.
Is it a game changer? Hell no. But it's a feature that appeals to some.
