But since marriage is dead and nothing has replaced it, there are far less reasons to have children as is proven by the low birth rate in most countries. The reason that "out of wedlock" is indeed a stigma, is because marriage was the primary pair bonding strategy. With that gone and no replacement, fertility can only fall.
