I'm guessing they are working on some sort of encryption for opening up external HDD and SD support. Basically if they just created an encryption key based on the Wii's ID, they should be able to avoid several issues. I don't really know what they are trying to come up with, but I'm sure there are several ways to prevent people from pirating from external HDD's and SD cards.
