Why would you think that? Why would Monster Boy do better when there's all sorts of other games, ones that are not a simple 2-d platformer, that could be played instead? If this was a game like Hellblade or something, sure, I would be surprised if the Switch version did much better than the PS4/X1 version. But most people who have a PS4 wouldn't even know what Monster Boy is, let alone have any sort of desire to play it.

And now that I've actually seen footage of the game, I'm shocked it's not a mobile game.

Yeah, something like this belongs on the Switch. I'm glad that its developers are finding success on that platform. But there is no surprise whatsoever that this sorta basic cutesy mobile-esque game isn't doing well on PS4.

What makes you think 2D games are inferior to 3D games? Undertale sold over 3 million copies on Steam alone for example. Stardew Valley did even better with over 3.6 million copies sold on Steam. Hollow Knight already sold over 800K copies.

Hellblade only sold 300K copies on Steam.

Also that footage is old, they have improved on the art-style since then (just read their blog and look at the screenshots).

Indies sell better on Switch than any other platform because they're often just as good as the other versions, but with the added benefit of portability. Nintendo also heavily pushes indie games with their "Nindie" brand. They often promote indie games in the News section of the Nintendo Switch, they feature indie games like Rocket League and Undertale at E3 or Nintendo directs and they hold Nindie Showdown livestreams which focuses exclusively on the promising indie games coming to the Switch.

Stop trying to turn this into console wars and act like the PS4 is better because it sells more "big boy" games. It's condescending and far from the truth.
