Your question wasnt even the point I was trying to make but ok, Ill answer.Simple answer is:Because its fun.

If someone says that he needs to keep his expectations in check, then he is already hyped in the first place. So no point in trying to fool yourself because when the games you want to show up arent there, you are going to be dissapointed either way.So there is no point in doing that charade.Though I will say that its also pointless to create unreasonable expectations such as "Red Dead 3 is comming to the Switch!" for no reason at all.But wanting to see Nintendo games on a Nintendo direct is normal.

Outside of that, its the fun of the direct and conferences in general, predicting and all.Thats why, at least partly, people participate in forums. To discuss about stuff we love.Comming in and saying "OK, I would love to see those 4 titles I want, but I will keep my expectations in check and expect none or one title for some reason because thats super fun" and predicting nothing is lame.As long as it is in moderation, we all should just jump in the fun.

Like I explained, the point you were trying to make is moot, so I was responding to the implications that we should raise our expectations.

I don't think being disappointed and let down is fun, certainly not moreso than being surprised, but to each their own. Okay I'll admit, it is kinda fun seeing the crying n whining after every Nintendo event about X game not being there. And speak for yourself, I used to hype up directs and such, only to look like a fool afterwards, but after E3 2015 I've been keeping my expectations mellow and have hardly been so disappointed. The last direct for example, the biggest highlight to me was Kirby release date, but I still thought the direct was fine. Pre-E3 2015 me woulda been crying about Animal Crossing.

Or you can just respect that not everyone wants to do that.

I never said I thought whoever does that was a fool, or something of the like.I just said that it was likely that we would get more than what people think with this direct.I didnt even touch upon managing expectations or anything of the sort. You simply interpreted it as that.Nor did I say that I didnt respect who dosent like to predict alot of stuff, and having wild dreams about what game are going to show up.

Its just that, and it should go without saying that this is my opinion, that being like that is simply boring.A forum lives or die with the interaction betwenn its users, and could you imagine how damn boring would it be if everyone played it safe and just stated the obvious games that would be shown?Everyone would reach the same conclusion, and any potential discussion would be dead by the 7th or 8th post, because everyone is either thinks the same or is too afraid to go off the beaten path. And what strikes me as funny is that you only think that the breakdowns are fun, but not the discussion that it established before. That, for me, its the most enjoyable part:The expectation. Its like when you are waiting to go to that rollercoaster that you so much like, and waiting on a (reasonably lenghty) line. That 20 minutes wait makes you wonder what kind of emotions you will feel, and thats one important part of the enjoyment of life.

Anyways, I kind of got sidetracked with my examples, but to summarize:You can think whatever you like, and you can be safe about the things you do, but having expectation, big or small are part of life and part of partaking in things.I do think that if we were all in the fun, it would make for a better forum and community, but thats simply my take on it.That dosent mean I dont respect your opinion, I simply disagree with it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.
