That doesn't mean anything tbh. It can be in stock at amazon but out of stock in many stores. A lot of people aren't buying online.

True.....but I think one has to make the logical assumption that if those people are really desperate about buying the switch (read baseline buyers) and couldn't get it elsewhere, they would know somebody, who would know somebody, who would in turn know another person who was aware that it was available on Amazon.

I would hold on to my opinion that whatever we get this week would be a pretty accurate reflection of the switch baseline. I would also have more confidence in it as the baseline if it only slightly deviates from the past 2 weeks's (that I've been aware of scarcity on Amazon) results in either direction. If it is below the 40k trend, then the switch baseline is about 35k, if it is significantly higher, then the baseline is northwards of 40k and yet to find a true level.
