That's one thing I've been continuously working on the last five years or so. Well, interacting with people I don't know, not just men. I try to gauge the situation to see if it would be more awkward to try to converse or to just stare at my phone & shut out the world like a little kid.
I find a good 'break the ice' conversation starter is "Superman or Goku."
