Try using the palico plunderblade. It'll help your chances.
Breaking the tail and carving only helps your chances, still no guarantee.

Dude going by my experience you got mega lucky if you have that many. Because when I say it took over 30 fights I’m not even exaggerating, and with each fight averaging 15-20mins, that’s hours just to get ONE gem.
