They're all on one piece, but the effect is the same no matter the spread, only the number of mains n subs matter.

Nice, thanks.

True or False

If you were using ability chunks to customize all you sub slots with 3 total abilities you could put one ability on each piece of gear spending 30 total chunks. Alternately if you wanted to put the same 3 subs on a single piece of gear making it shiny (perfect) you would spend 60 ability chunks to do so while ending up with the same net effect as the first scenario where you only spent 30 chunks.

False! Well technically what you said is correct, but there are a few ways to get shiny gear while only needing to use 30 chunks, or none at all if you get super lucky. The simplest is when the gear has the brand you want, you just level it up then scrub it on repeat until you get 2 correct sub abilitys (getting all 3 is possible but much less likely). Splatnet gear makes it easier to get the main ability + brand you want. By using drinks it's possible to get 2 subs of any ability you want on any piece of gear you want (getting all 3 is possible but really unlikely). Due to that flexibility this is overall the best and most consistent method, but of course you're limited by the number of drink tickets you have, so always play Salmon Run! Lastly, ordering already shiny gear from other players and hoping you're lucky enough to get atleast 2 subs (again 3 is possible but extremely unlikely). This is slow and inconsistent, but atleast it can be done alongside the other methods.
