That's a weird way to look at things. Especially the drop in US and not in EU. 2017 had Horizon: Zero Dawn which reasonated with european audiences more than with the american audience. The 2nd big release was Gran Turismo. Enough said. 2018 is God of War. A series that historically underperformed in EU but was a smash hit in the US. 2nd big release is Spiderman. No one is going to tell me that superheroes are bigger in EU than the US. Add some RDR2, KHIII and Days Gone and I honestly don't see this line of reasoning. |
Well to be fair I just don't think the GoW audience is something that is not on PS4 already and I don't see it selling much system than an Horizon ZD. Spiderman can be pretty big for the casual audience, only thing is it should have been out during a Spidey movie. Is Venom releasing this year ? Or the Spidey animation movie ?
2017 had amazing deals, gold edition, Pro was a pretty new, got a resurgence in Japan with DQ, had big exclusives like a "new" Uncharted, Horizon, GT and Crash was a massive hit. It also had so many bundles... 2018 doesn't have much more than this. It can do a little better than 2017 but it will all be playing during the second half. Also knowing the Switch will be more present for the casual market and will probably be more aggressive with deals this year, we will pretty much seeing a Switch stronger than in 2017 during the holidays and Black Friday. Switch will also have lesser stock problems in stock in Japan.
KH3 has been announced for years at this point and with all the special editions and remaster I don't think people are still waiting to buy a PS4 for it also knowing the franchise is really not as big as people seem to think.
Days gone, meh, the hyped pretty much died I don't think it will do that well. It's nothing quite special on it's own and on top of that knowing Tlou part II is coming... there is no point of buying something so similar.
RDR2, yea sure. Let's see if it really holds up to the expectations.
2018 is an amazing year for PS4 but I just don't think it has something that 2017 didn't bring (yet). We have to remember that PS4 is going to turn 5 this year and it's pretty rare that people really wait all this time to buy a console when 2017 was already amazing and full of discounts.
