Why would the Nintendo president say otherwise? Maybe I'm missing something here, but console manufacturers stop supporting a system because of other factors in the industry (read: competition). Of course Nintendo would like to support the Switch longer, but if sales are declining they will need to move on. Also, in five years, aren't you going to want Nintendo to come up with something new? The Switch is going to feel uway underpowered by that time.

I think they mean more the brand to be honest. Like in 3 years we could have an upgraded Switch like xbox one x

Nintendo went that route with the DS and the 3DS, so I don't think it would be too much of a surprise if they did it with the Switch, especially if it continues to sell really well.

There are only a few 3DS games that only work on the "New 3DS", as developers don't want to eliminate part of the install base when making a game. If/when the Switch does get an upgrade, it still won't future-proof the brand.

I'm not a hater, but the Switch is still young, and wanting something great to last for years and years is fine. Maybe a decade ago I would have been in that boat, but from my own personal experience, it's not quite played out that way.

I can see Nintendo four years from now:

It's E3 2022, the PS5 is out, and all it's games are standard 4K. There is talks of Sony announcing their PS5 Pro that is capable of 8K. Now it's time for Nintendo's Direct. Instead of announcing a Switch 2, they announce a Switch Pro.

I'm just saying that early in a console's lifecycle, when we eat, sleep, and breathe Switch, getting confirmation that it's going to still be around after 7 years sounds good, but by that point won't we be ready for a Switch 2?
