No doubt. Nobody fits perfectly into one of the two (often hypocritical) platforms. People feeling that they need to conform to one of those standards actually creates a divide within themselves. Their hostility towards the "other" often comes from uncertainty towards their own viewpoint, which causes them to double down on the their fractured ideology.

Having said that, once the "spell" was broken for me, it's hard to imagine crossing back to the Conservative side of the aisle. I actually realized I was more of a liberal while watching the Republican debates in 2008. When I tuned back in for the 2012 debates, it was hard to imagine how I'd ever shared mind space with a lot of the toxic views being pushed around.
