The interesting thing here is that it was a perfectly reasonable question. There was really no reason for him to be an ass and no reason at all for people to cheer him on for being an ass. If he didn't want to answer the question then he could easily have ignored it.
Personally, Kamiya hasn't made a game I care about in over a decade. Bayonetta was great in terms of base mechanics but the creative direction was seemingly handled by a 12 year old boy--which I guess lines up well with his personality on twitter. He could retire tomorrow and I wouldn't care.
However, it seems others at his company are very talented and I'd like to see them continue to produce games. Yes, they've made a fair amount of junk but I think Nier: Automata proves that they have ability, perhaps if someone else has control of the reigns.
