Hitachi drivese are among the best HDDs on the market. Every quarter or so we get data from a data/cloud computing company about its hard drives reliability, and it's a good indicator on how a certain drive will perform. The latest report was Q3 2017: https://www.backblaze.com/blog/hard-drive-failure-rates-q3-2017/ HGST is the acronym for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. |
Yep. Hitachi have a great record at the moment.
Although... They used to be rubbish and were dubbed "Deathstars".
Personally, I stick to Western Digital thanks to warranty since Samsung spun off it's HDD business.
At the moment I have 3x 4 Terabyte and 3x 3 Terabyte Western Digital Elements hanging off my PC (All full.) So I am in the process of building a NAS with 30 Terabytes of storage using Western Digital Reds so I can ditch them all.
