Because sources with insider information said so?

I don't know what kind of information Niko have access to, or if Zhuge based his comment on information he had access to, or something that was made public. That's why I asked.

"Did Microsoft state that sales are down YoY two years in a row?"

Why would they? thats bad PR, instead they  ll mention how many hours of gameplay this year had, how many bullets where fired in this and that game ect.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't people been able to discern that certain months were up or down YoY even though Microsoft didn't outright say so, by piecing together information we got from all three companies?
I haven't kept track of their PR as of late, so I thought they may have accidentally revealed something that people picked up on.

For me, I assumed that the XB1 was below the 360 launch aligned after the end of 2016 because Xbox Wire mentioned that the XB1 was outpacing its predecessor after Holidays 2015, but did not mention that after Holidays 2016. IHS Markit, a very large company that does industry data analysis as one of its main services, estimated the XB1's sales to be 27.6m by the end of 2016, so I thought there was some weight behind interpreting Microsoft's silence in regards to the XB1's relative performance to the 360 launch-aligned.

It could be that Zhuge's company uses a different methodology and as a result, arrived at a different conclusion.
