I despise the very concept - Richard Garfield (who is great designer) designed Magic The Gathering so that Wizards could publish his other game (Robo Rally) - the rest is history...
There are plethora of really great card games out there, be it deck builders or some other mechanism, that don't rely on "buy more" concept...
