From what i have seen, it has sort of evolved from a DMC/Bayonetta style hack n slash to now incorporate more from traditional 3rd person action games like Uncharted/Last of Us.

So similar to BotW in the sense of adapting by adding aspects from other games like Skyrim and other open world western RPGs.
