So he is predicting a level of success on the order of games like Uncharted 4, Destiny, etc and well beyond peer-titles like Dark Souls?

Yeah that's not delusional....

His prediction is based on many speculative "if's": if it "gives sales of PlayStation hardware a big boost on the console's home turf", and if "many players [in Japan] have been waiting for a new home console Monster Hunter game.*hes really not

Yet, the COMG will likely end with less than half the points of the last mainline Monster Hunter title (1600+ for MHW vs. 3800 for MH4.) So it doesn't look like these assumptions are holding.

Hes not saying "if" that happends.
Hes saying he think it will give a boost to hardware sales in japan.

He doesnt mention why he believes it has the potential to reach 10m, other than how successfull the beta tryouts was, and how popular the title is in japan, and that console owners have waited along time for a new monster hunter title..

The bolded is what I said, except you make a stronger statement that he asserted it to be so rather than leaving for the chance that it is conditional, which I might agree upon rereading what was said.

Yet the game is still tracking to do half of what the previous mainline Monster Hunter has done in Japan.

It would make more sense if he was talking about the game being western-focused, or multi-plat than mention Japanese sales (which are almost certainly going to decline with respect to handheld titles.)

Either way, ten million is a ridiculous prediction for a single Monster Hunter game, and I don't even know why you'd post it, especially since it is based on flimsy assumptions.  That doesn't mean Capcom won't make a lot of money reusing assets in the inevitable expansions and portable versions though. It doesn't need to sell ten million to be successful.
