Hirokazu Hamamura, President of Enterbrain, the publisher of Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, believes it "could" do 10m lifetime sales.
"Hamamura-san predicted that the new entry in the celebrated Monster Hunter series has enough clout to give sales of PlayStation hardware a big boost on the console's home turf. He says that there are many players who have been waiting for a new home console Monster Hunter game, and we all know how popular the franchise is in Japan. |
So he is predicting a level of success on the order of games like Uncharted 4, Destiny, etc and well beyond peer-titles like Dark Souls?
Yeah that's not delusional....
His prediction is based on many speculative "if's": if it "gives sales of PlayStation hardware a big boost on the console's home turf", and if "many players [in Japan] have been waiting for a new home console Monster Hunter game."
Yet, the COMG will likely end with less than half the points of the last mainline Monster Hunter title (1600+ for MHW vs. 3872 for MH4.) So it doesn't look like these assumptions are holding.
