VR is its own thing. What does it lure to that is not itself? It's a simple peripheral that has one specific purpose and does that purpose quite well. It's not an addon.
If steering wheels and VR headsets are gimmicks then so are controllers and keyboards.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
