Did you want RPG series? Or RPG game. If series, then probably Final Fantasy because it is the most prestigious, though I did like many other series when they were 2D like Secret of Mana, Tales of Phantasia, Crystalis, Dragon Warrior, Faxanadu, etc.
Crystalis is my favorite RPG game.
