Obviously, Sony is not too worried about it. If $299 was such an issue, they wouldn't have just come off their best year yet.

It's a testament that they are still selling the thing at such a high price especially when you'd think production costs are very low at this point. 

 

And they are tight to maximise profits, the more money they make the more they can invest in exclusives and third party deals.
