So you're saying if the ps5/xbo2 release in 2020 they'll be a 10th generation? And the Switch will be the only system in the 9th generation?

A generation in the terms of 1st-8th is always a group, one cannot be solitary otherwise it loses all meaning. Your views on generations is misguided.

Generations are about timing and only required one individual. Again, would you consider the x360 6th gen if it took many years for another console to release?

There's a certain amount of give or take warranted, but a system should in general be put into the generation it spends the majority of it's life (prior to a successor) alongside.

So if ps3/wii weren't released till sometime after November 2009, then absolutely I'd group the 360 as a 6th generation machine. As for the majority of it's life until being replaced that was the newest generation.
