PS4 launched for $400 and was stronger than the Xbox One, which launched for $500. That's the key tipping point.
That's what drove momentum... Xbox also has practically no presence in Japan and thus misses out on a lot of the more niche Japanese games (which also have a fanbase in the West).
Also Playstation is simply a stronger brand. Even when Sony fucked up colossally with the PS3 they still managed to outsell the Xbox 360.
