PS2 shipped 100 million in 5 years and 9 months. When will PS4 do the same?

Sure, that is the point, the success and "failure" of all 4 consoles and the good showing of PSP and disaster PSVita are all merits and fault from Sony.

But on VGC it is quite common to attribute the success of PS1,2,4 to the failure of competitors and not merit of Sony while only attributing the failure of PS3 to Sony.

People on VGC have many different strange or normal and well-founded or outright crazy ideas. I don't see a common agreement, that success and failure of the Sony consoles is because of the competition. And if there is such a consensus, then it is just stupid.

No consensus sure, it is more like you said, there are crazyness from each extreme of the spectrum on VGC but a lot of sensible and well adjusted members.

But you know that when you yourself already say that if aligned differently PS4 may not reach 100M before PS2 then there is no point in people going and doing that to dismiss the sales of PS4, same with Switch if fanbase points out it is outselling 3DS aligned and even though it is ahead of Wii so far it will probably end lower.
