Update: Looks like something might be happening on Banjo's 20th year anniversary

Also, Flashbulb Games employee posted this:

"Without going into too much detail, I know for sure that Microsoft have got their cheque book out and are actively seeking out both smaller and larger titles they can get as an Xbox exclusive, both timed and full on."

Couldn't care less about Banjo (Conker is better, come at me bros), but hearing from a trusted developer source that MS has their checkbook out and is actively looking to buy exclusives, both small and large, is good to hear. It's going to take them a few years to build up their 1st party to a decent size, if they are even trying to build it up like they say they are, in the meantime they're going to need to buy some 3rd party exclusives to help fill in the gaps in their release schedule.

Yeah, I was gonna post something along the lines of this as well. Even if Phil Spencer were to go ahead and make let's say 5 entirely new first party studios this week, it would still most likely be at least 2 years before we would even see a release from any of them, or depending on the size of the games who knows.

Their best bet at the moment imo is to just continue doing what they've been doing with the Xbox One by funding and partnering with other developers to make exclusives for them while simultaneously readying up and making new first party studios so by the time maybe the next generation starts whenever that may be those studio's games will be ready and they hopefully shouldn't have an exclusive or first party problem again.
