According to SteamDatabase, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has just surpassed 3 million concurrent players. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, also known as PUBG, is the most successful PC game of 2017 as it has sold more than 25 million copies on Steam.

Modder ‘Zanieon’ has released a brand new version of his Quake III On Doom mod, Hunter’s Moon. Hunter’s Moon is a mod for Zandronum and GZDoom that consists in bringing the single-player/cooperative campaign that Quake III Arena never had.

NervenHölle-Team is currently working on an ambitious Half-Life 2 mod that focuses on making an unofficial sequel to Gearbox Software’s Half-Life game: Opposing Force. The team hinted that it will release this modification in February 2018, and released some brand new screenshots from it.

The team behind TES3MP – a project adding multiplayer to OpenMW, which is an open-source recreation of Morrowind’s engine – has released a brand new version of it. Yes, you read that right; you can play Morrowind in multi-player now. Morrowind, as pretty much all the main The Elder Scrolls games, is a single-player game, however, gamers can finally play this classic RPG game in multi-player thanks to this project.

Pathologic 2 is one of the games I'm most looking forward to in 2018. It's the remake of creepy adventure game Pathologic, which came out in 2005 and is considered one of the major influences on the modern survival horror genre. The remake smashed its Kickstarter target earlier this year before releasing a suitably weird trailer, and now developer Ice-Pick Lodge has put out a gif-heavy progress update and gone in-depth on many of the game's systems, including combat and autopsies.

A leak on the PlayStation Store that was captured by the quick-fingered folks of Reddit has revealed—unofficially, of course—that the next Destiny 2 expansion, set to come out in March, will be called Gods of Mars. The expansion will feature new stories and missions set in Clovis Grove and Charlemagne's Vault, with themed weapons, armor, and gear, co-op activities, multiplayer arenas, and a new enemy faction, Charlemagne's Remnants.

It wasn't a great year for CCP Games, the studio behind the space-spreadsheet MMO EVE Online. In October the company ended development of its VR projects, laid off almost 100 people, and closed two of its four offices. December 31, 2016, was the 20th anniversary of Blizzard's great action-RPG Diablo, and to celebrate it held a Darkening of Tristram event in January of this year that recreated the original game's dungeon in Diablo 3, complete with a pixelated graphics, stiffer animations, and other old-school visual elements. It was "beautifully done," as we said in our look at how Blizzard pulled it off—and it's coming back.

Point-and-click adventure game Titanic: Adventure Out of Time is a "very ambitious, clever step back in time that deserves its cult following , and a fair bit more besides"—so said Richard back in 2014. But at that time, there wasn't an easy way to get hold of it without shelling out for a physical copy. That's all changed, because the game has now surfaced on GOG, where it will cost you $5.39/£4.
