UMMM playstation consoles were never a fad. they sold because they made the right moves, not to mention, the had most third party games as exclusives, if this was the case now ps4 would be selling much better. motions controls yes they are fad, sure they still exist but they can't even sell 5 million consoles now, not like with kinect and wii.
