Imagine that if 5 years ago someone would tell you that such prices would be being paid for a defender from Southampton in 5 years, the entire world would laugh at them, and honestly rightfully so. It's insane how fast prices are increasing the past years. Real Madrid paid like €95mil for Ronaldo 8,5 years ago, imagine what they would have to pay in today's market for a player of that quality who's currently at a club like Manchester United. I could honestly see a $1billion transfer happening within 10 years, all it takes IMO is an absolute World Class talent (as in a young player who could become the best of the world) at a mid-table club in one of Europe's big leagues and the bidding war would be insane.
