There was no way it would beat the PS4 during it's peak with crazy discounts and it's best system sellers (Call of Duty, Battlefront 2). Expecting a console to do 20 million+ (what the PS4 will end up doing this year) in it's first year is insane. I don't think it's has ever been done before when you look at the Switch tracking for 14-15 millions in 1 year being one of the best launch for a console ever.
Switch was ahead during some weeks/months even with shortage. Let's just wait and see what Nintendo has in stock for 2018 before judging the sales.
