I really wish that I have played more Dragon Quest games. I played DQ 1, 2, and 8 when they first came to NA on a home console. I really loved all 3 of these games. But most of the other DQ games have been released many years after the Japanese release and/or on handheld only. I prefer my RPG's a lot more on a bigger screen. I am really looking forward to DQ XI, because I will finally get a chance to play a DQ game on a modern home console.

Final Fantasy is a different animal. I do feel like a good chunk of the talent that made the best FF games are gone. On the other hand there are still some talented people left. I haven't played FFXIV, but it is a good example of what is going on in the franchise. It initially was a total flop, the worst mainline FF game ever. Then they gave the game to a new director and the reboot became a huge success. I am really impressed that someone was able to take a terrible game with a worthless reputation and turn it into something amazing. That takes some real talent. I would like to see that kind of talent make the next FF game.

So with DQ, I consider the game a must buy at this point. With FF I am cautiously optimistic. It traditionally has been my favorite series, and I believe they have what it takes to make another amazing FF game. At the same time there has been a huge noticeable drop in quality from the last few FF titles, and that could likely be the case for FF16.
