Why is German pop culture less popular worldwide than American, British and Japanese?

I think language - Of course Japanese is potentially an even bigger barrier but they are famous for being no1 in technology and games. And until the last decade, most Asian pop was considered Japanese (regardless of origin) until the Korean wave took over.
